Our Philosophy and Who We Are….

There are lots of exciting changes happening at Happy Tails! Effective May 1, 2018, we are amalgamating with Fella and Fetch Canine Care. With this merger, we can offer daycare, boarding, grooming, and retail services, the most effectively. Once our Fella and Fetch website is up and running, we will be closing our Happy Tails website page. If you have questions or inquiries, please click on our “contact” button at the top and send us a message
Welcome to Happy Tails Dog Enrichment Centre!  We hope you find our website helpful…..We’re glad to offer many different services at our facility: dog daycare, dog training classes, private instruction, grooming, and much more! Whether using our daycare services, taking a fun class with your dog, or booking a grooming session, we follow the philosophy at our facility of being a force-free centre.  We don’t use harsh corrections or aversive techniques.  We want the dogs at our centre to be comfortable, happy, and able to relax.  We focus on using positive reinforcement (food, toys, praise……but mainly food!) to reward dogs for desired behaviours.  Undesired behaviours do crop up, and we focus on time-outs for dogs if they’re behaving not so nicely.  We also ignore behaviour, such as demand-barking, so it’s not reinforced.  Dogs don’t always know what we want, so we also focus on re-directing unwanted behaviours to something more desirable.Rest assured we will do our very best to make your dog’s experience with us a fun and positive one!PrintJodi Berger, Owner & Director, Trainerjodi-and-grover-high-five-3

Jodi grew up amongst dogs, and has been around them her whole life. Having a busy lifestyle wasn’t conducive to owning her own dogs for many years, but that changed a number of years ago, and Jodi adopted her two current dogs:  Odie, a 8-year old GSD mix, and Grover, a 6-year old Australian Shepherd.

Jodi became keenly fascinated with dog behaviour and training, and chose to pursue formal education. She is currently studying canine behaviour and animal learning through the Jean Donaldson Dog Training Academy, a comprehensive 2-year program. The program has rigorous standards in evaluation and testing.

Over the past five years, Jodi has taken many classes with her Australian Shepherd, Grover, including Agility, Rally-O, Tricks, and FitPaws. She has dabbled in herding, and her current new endeavours with Grover are a Stunt Dog class and Treibball.

Jodi has taken a number of classes with Odie, but became very aware of his reactivity issues towards some other dogs, so the best class option for him was an outdoor Over-Reactivity dog class.

Having a passion for dogs and learning as much as she can about them, Jodi plans to continue to try new classes and attend seminars and workshops, to increase her knowledge, and to have fun with her canine companions!

May Fischer, Instructor & Dog Trainer

May has been involved with dogs her whole life, but took a serious turn towards training in 2009, with her first flyball dog.  Since then, she has instructed several private lessons and group classes, focusing on Rally Obedience, Basic Manners, Tricks, Barnhunt, and CGN pre classes. She completed her Trick Dog Instructor Certification in 2015, and is currently a Bronze Level Trainer with the Do More With Your Dog Organization.

May is dedicated to continuing her education and professional development, and attends several seminars per year, while also keeping current on all industry literature. She is member of CKC, has her Pet First Aid, and is currently completing her CGN Evaluator and Rally FrEe Certifications.

When not helping clients improve their relationships with their canine companions, May competes in Flyball, Obedience, Disc, Rally, and Barnhunt with her six dogs.

  • Jodi has been a tremendous help with our newly adopted dog, Jinger. The techniques she taught us were easy to follow, very effective and resulted in a quick training of of both us and Jinger. It is a pleasure working with Jodi!

  • Jodi has been working with my four chihuahuas for a few months now and from very soon after she started I could see a definite improvement.  My Corki had never had any formal training; she is my latest rescue.  With just a couple of sessions she now knows how to sit and will do so  on command. I’m looking forward to when the daycare/training facility opens up as all of my “kids” will benefit from more training than I have time to do on my own.
